Steam places the story three months after the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Claire Redfield travels to France in search of Chris Redfield after surviving with Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin.
The official store synopsis says Claire is captured by Umbrella special forces and taken to Rockfort Island, which is transformed by another biological disaster into a survival-horror setting.
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi says the remake will explore more of Claire's motivations after Raccoon City.
Hirabayashi also told PlayStation Blog that parts of the original story are being adjusted to connect more closely with the Resident Evil lore established since 2000. Capcom has not said which scenes or character arcs will change.
The remake is based on Code: Veronica, but Capcom describes its story as reimagined. Returning characters, puzzles and bosses are not confirmed until they appear in current remake material.
